Bench more weight more often with the towel press

For new strength gains in the bench try the towel bench or board press.

This is such a great exercise for many reasons.
1. it allows you to add more weight to the bar.
- generally speaking a lifter can add 10 to 20 pounds more than their regular bench
2. most important it helps prevent shoulder problems.
- too much flat benching can be hard on a powerlifters shoulders
3. it is some thing different, helps mentally and physically.

To perform the towel bench or board press place a rolled towel or a couple of flat board on your chest. This is the depth you will bring the bar down to. Keeping the bar a few inches of the chest helps save the shoulder and allows you to add a little extra weight.

Simply perform the bench the way you would regularly, but now the bar will firmly touch the towel, or board instead of the chest.

Give this method a try to add a second or third bench day to your powerlifting weight training.

All the best in your weight training, powerlifting, and bodybuilding programs.
